Postcard showing a turn-of-the-century view of the Constantinople (Istanbul) neighborhood of Fener (Phenar) where the Greeks had to move after the Turkish conquest of Constantinople. In the forefront: the Bulgarian Orthodox Church of St. Stephen; atop the hill: the Patriarchate of Constantinople. During the last decades of the 19th century, the Greeks were deserting the Fener for the more prosperous, westernized districts of Galata and Pera across the Golden Horn. Postcard issued c. 1905-1910.
