The historic coat of arms and seal of the former city of Gerresheim.(1393 - 1813)
The lion is the lion of the Counts of Berg, who ruled the area for many centuries and who granted the city rights in 1368. The three stars represent the three patron saints of the city and the local abbey.

Blasonierung: Das historische Wappen und Siegel der ehemaligen Stadt Gerresheim. (1393 - 1813)
Im gespaltenem Schild zeigt es vorn in Silber einen blau gezungten roten steigenden zwiegeschwänzten Bergischen Löwen; hinten in Blau drei goldene Sterne. Bedeutung: Der doppelschwänzige Bergische Löwe (Symbol der Grafen von Berg, Gerresheims einstiger Schutzmacht) ist in zahlreichen Wappen der Gegend zu finden. Die drei goldenen Sterne stehen für die Schutzpatrone der ersten Stiftskirche: Salvator (Christus), Gottesmutter (Maria) und dem heiligen Hippolyt. |
