Das von Hans-G. Orlovius entworfene Wappen wurde am 28. Mai 1952 vom Niedersächsischen Minister des Innern genehmigt.
Das Wappen soll den Einklang von Natur und Industrialisierung symbolisieren. Der seltene Milan brütet in den ortsnahen Wäldern von Hattorf; das Zahnrad steht für die Industrie und die Ähren für die Landwirtschaft.
