Deutsch: Das Wappen entstammt einem Gerichtssiegel aus dem frühen 15. Jahrhundert. Es zeigt den geschachten Balken der Grafen von Sponheim . Die beiden Kronen und der rot-weiße Schachbalken sind Zeichen für die hintere Grafschaft, welche als Symbol der Gemeinherrschaft der Sponheimer Grafen Simon und Heinrich galten.
English: The arms based on the arms of the counts of Sponheim . The arms of the counts of Sponheim showed chequy shield. The two crowns are added for the city and supposedly symbolise the rule of the two counts Simon and Heinrich who ruled the city together.
