English:
Famed journalist and author Bob Woodward and former Nixon White House aide Alexander Butterfield appeared together at the LBJ Presidential Library on March 2, 2016. Their conversation was hosted by Mark Updegrove, director of the LBJ Presidential Library, and Stephen Enniss, director of the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin. Updegrove moderated a conversation about Woodward's recent book, The Last of the President's Men, and Butterfield's experiences working for Richard Nixon. Woodward’s new book details the story of Butterfield, who served as deputy to White House Chief of Staff H. R. Haldeman. Butterfield made history in 1973 by revealing the secret White House taping system that led to President Nixon’s resignation during the Watergate scandal. The Harry Ransom Center holds the Watergate papers of Woodward and Carl Bernstein, who broke the Watergate stories as reporters for the Washington Post. Prior to the evening’s event, Woodward signed copies of his book.
