paper, commenting on the 1866 Romanian interregnum; explanatory couplet most likely done by Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu:
Decĭ, să remănemŭ / Ceĭa ce sîntemŭ
("So let's just stay / Like we were anyway"), placed above symbols celebrating republicanism and the Romanians' Latin inheritance (SPQR shield, Phrygian cap, fasces, vexillum, laurel-and-oak wreath).
Satyrul
's suggestion is that Romania was
de facto
a republic in 1866, and should have remained republican.
