Description Downtown Peoria from Air 1971.jpg |
English:
Downtown
Peoria
from the air in 1971, looking southwest. The
Illinois River
and the west end of the
Murray Baker Bridge
are at far left. Interstate highway
I-74
extends across the lower part of the photo. The
Caterpillar
Administration Building (now Caterpillar World Headquarters) is the cross-shaped building at left center. The Caterpillar parking deck is to its left. My desk at Caterpillar was in the wing closest to the camera.
Adams Street is the main street through the center of the photo. Courthouse Square is across from Caterpillar. The Savings Tower (now Associated Bank ), First National Bank building (now Commerce Bank ) are further right, on Jefferson Street. Pere Marquette Hotel is the large brown building at right. The cluster of long, low buildings at bottom left is Taft Homes, a public housing project. |
