Dr Richard Sezibera, Secretary General, East African Community and GAVI board member, at the GAVI pledging event press conference in London, 13 June 2011. At the end of a four-hour push to save lives hosted by David Cameron, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf (President of Liberia) and Bill Gates (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), it was announced that US$4.3billion had been pledged towards vaccinating at least a quarter of a billion children in the next five years, in order to save the lives of four million children.
