King William III
(of the
House of Nassau
) who granted the right to display it to the
Royal Irish Regiment
along with the harp and the crown (upper left corner) in 1695. Below the arms is the motto of the regiment:
Virtutis Namurcensis Præmium.
Designed by Sarah Purser (died 1943), painted by Alfred E. Child (died 1939), and executed by
An Túr Gloine
in Dublin in 1906.
