Fragmentary marble inscription from the Agora, dating from 185 \ 184 BC, found in 1970 in Athens.
Text relates to the reorganization of the Delphic Amphictyonic League. Among others who played a role, names Echedemos, son of Mnesitheos (who is also mentioned as an Athenian ambassador by historians Polybius and Livy). Photo, with full transcript and commentary, is published by Christian Habicht (1987) "The Role of Athens in the Reorganization of the Delphic Amphictiony after 189 BC", Hesperia, 56 (1): 59–71. Kept in the Epigraphical Museum in Athens, fragments Agora I 7197 (31 x 15.5 x 12 cm) and Agora I 7199 (30 x 29.5 x 7 cm). Another small part of this inscription is also in the Epigraphical Museum, fragment IG II² 898 (7.8 x 13 x 11 cm). |
