Description Electro-Voice Model 642 Long-Range Microphone (1961), one of the first shotgun microphones, Museum of Making Music.jpg |
In 1963, Electro-Voice received the honor of being one of the few manufacturers ever to receive an Oscar for technical achievement for the Model 642 Cardiline, a long- range mic. Also called a “shotgun” mic, many film and television sound engineers felt that the 642 significantly advanced the quality of sound on film. The award, in part, read “To Electro-Voice for a highly directional dynamic line microphone... capable of picking up sound in situations where a microphone cannot be placed close to the sound source and where unwanted sounds are to be discriminated against."
