Washington, D.C. Dec. 17 — President Roosevelt had a happy smile and a warm greeting for members of his official family when he returned to the White House today after a five-week's trip abroad for conferences with other world leaders.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Day by Day — FDR left the USS Potomac and motored to the White House where he arrived at 9:30 am. A large delegation of his friends were on hand at the White House to welcome him back home. FDR's expedition to North Africa and the Middle East had taken him over a total of 17,442 land, sea and air miles.
