- Merkið - The Faroese Flag - Schooner Sanna
- Stamp FR 196 of the Faroe Islands
- Date of issue: 9 April 1990
- Graphical art: Bárður Jákupsson
- Description: The schooner Sanna from Toftir was sunk by a German airplane in 1942 north of the Faroes in the Second World War. 8 Faroese seamen lost their lives. During the war, the British occupation forces reckognized Merkið, the Faroese Flag since 25 April 1940. This is a National Holiday (the Flag Day) on the Faroes since then. All boats had to hoist that flag and paint the name FAROES - FØROYA on their sides, for British Navy had to distinguish them as "friendly boats". This stamp highly symbolizes two items: The pride about the flag and the mourning about the lost of peaceful fishermen of a peaceful nation.
