English: This image shows the flags of Iceland and the US lowered as the US hands over the former en:Naval Air Station Keflavik to Icelandic control in 2006. The image was found at the US embassy in Iceland website . According to the embassy: U.S. Navy personnel and Icelandic police lower the U.S. and Icelandic flags outside the U.S. Naval Air Station-Keflavik on Sept.30 as the U.S. handed over the base area to Iceland, ending nearly 60 years of U.S. military presence in the country.
