HERE - ON NOVEMBER 18, 1800 - THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES MET FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WASHINGTON, REMAINING THROUGH THE SECOND SESSION OF THE SIXTH CONGRESS. HERE, FROM FEBRUARY 11 TO FEBRUARY 17, 1801, THE HOUSE CAST 36 SUCCESSIVE BALLOTS TO ELECT THOMAS JEFFERSON PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IN THE CONTEST BETWEEN JEFFERSON AND AARON BURR. ON NOVEMBER 5, 1804, THE ROOM AGAIN BECAME TEMPORARY QUARTERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES - DURING THE SECOND SESSION OF THE EIGHTH CONGRESS AND THE WHOLE OF THE NINTH, ADJOURNED MARCH 3, 1807.
