Description

Die im Stil des Barocks gebaute Würzburger Residenz wurde zwischen 1719 und 1744 im Auftrage von Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn errichtet. Der Baumeister war Balthasar Neumann. Sie war der Sitz der Würzburger Fürstbischöfe. Im europäischen Kontext gilt es als einer der bedeutendsten Residenzbauten des Spätbarocks und steht mit einer Reihe mit Schlössern wie Schönbrunn (Wien) und Versailles. Seit 1881 gehört es zum Weltkulturerbe.

Built in the style of Baroque Würzburg Residence was built in 1719-1744 by order of Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn. The architect was Balthasar Neumann. It was the seat of the Würzburg prince-bishops. In the European context it is considered one of the most important Residenzbauten the late Baroque and communicates with a series of locks such as Schönbrunn (Vienna) and Versailles. Since 1881, a World Heritage Site.
