Summary
Description GHG emissions from wood pellets burnt for electricity in the EU.png |
English:
GHG emissions from wood pellets burnt for electricity in the EU (approximately 0.2 kg CO2 equivalents per kWh) compared to emissions from fossil fuels burnt for electricity in the EU (0.67 kg CO2-eq per kWh.) 1288 kg CO2 equivalents are avoided per tonne of wood pellets that is used instead of fossil fuels. The GHG emission reduction percentages, as compared to fossil EU electricity are displayed in the chart. Results for mill residues are presented both according to the GHG accounting of this study (including upstream GHG emissions of mill residues like plantation management) and for comparison according to GHG accounting rules for mill residues by the EU Joint Research Centre (JRC, 2014), which excludes upstream GHG emissions.
