By 1658 : Owned by Gerrit Reynst (1599–1658), Amsterdam , Netherlands .
1660 : Inherited by Reynst's widow Anna Reynst, Amsterdam, and probably sold by her to the States of Holland for presentation to Charles II of England (1630–1685).
Given by Charles II to Barbara Villiers ( Barbara Palmer, 1st Duchess of Cleveland , 1641–1709), or to their son Henry FitzRoy (1663–1690) and his wife Isabella Bennett ( c. 1668–1723), and located at Euston Hall , Thetford , Norfolk , England .
Between 1698 and 1727 : Inherited by Isabella and owned by her and her second husband Thomas Hanmer (1677–1746), and located at Euston Hall.
Probably inherited by Charles FitzRoy, 2nd Duke of Grafton (1683–1757), son of Henry FitzRoy and Isabella Bennett. Passed by descent within FitzRoy family until 1948.
1948 : Colnaghi, London , England, UK. Sold by Colnaghi in that year to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston for $1,130, and accessioned by the Museum on 9 December 1948.

According to the Museum, "The history of ownership is not definitive or comprehensive, as it is under constant review and revision by MFA curators and researchers."
