HMS Eagle, an aircraft carrier built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast, and completed in 1951. She is seen here in the late fifties, at speed with her Whirlwind helicopters airborne for rescue standby during flying operations. Eagle served until 1972 when she was laid up in reserve, before being sold for scrap in 1978.
