Summary

Description IWM caption : A proud souvenir, the torn Battle Ensign of HMS HMS Tartar (F43) carried in her action with German destroyers in the Channel. It was in this action 8 June 1944 at Barfleur that a German destroyer ZH 1 was torpedoed and sunk by the destroyers Tartar and Ashanti and the former was hit on the bridge by three 120 mm shells. Left to right: Able Seamen E.G. Nurse of Swansea; W. Wetherall of Chiswick; D.J. Harvey of Worcester; G. Lilley of Rockhampton and P. Gill of Manchester. They have all served over three years in Tartar .
