Col. Henry Capehart, a surgeon and officer in the U.S. Cavalry during the American Civil War; he received the Medal of Honor for saving the life of a drowning soldier while under fire at Greenbrier River, West Virginia, on May 22, 1864. Breveted Major General, U. S. Volunteers, 17 June 1865. The exact same picture appears between pages 164 and 165 of the book titled "Loyal West Virginia from 1861 to 1865 : With an Introductory Chapter on the Status of Virginia for Thirty Years Prior to the War." It was published in 1895, and the author is Theodore F. Lang.
