The labours of Hercules

The statue of Hercules - a lead copy of the famous Farnese Hercules - dates from the early 18th Century and is attributed to Jan Van Nost. The statue was moved to the entrance of The Quarry in 1851 with his back to the town so as not to offend womenfolk! He assumed his present position in 1881.

The statue is Grade II listed.
