Summary

Description
English: Sketch map of Hobbit origins, based on J. R. R. Tolkien's Prologue 'Concerning Hobbits' at the start of The Lord of the Rings . Tolkien explains that the Harfoots "long lived in the foothills of the mountains" and "moved westward early", roaming as far as Weathertop; the Stoors "lingered long by the banks of the Great River Anduin" and followed the river Loudwater southwards; and the Fallowhides "were a northerly branch", were friendly with the Elves, "crossed the mountains north of Rivendell and came down the River Hoarwell".
