David Lewis puts his yacht
Ice Bird
through its initial trials after being refit at Palmer Station, Antarctica in Austral Summer, 1973. Photographed from a rubber Zodiac, by D. Kent Yates, part of USGS team at Palmer Station in 1973. The raft was piloted by Albert P. Giannini, a biologist from U.C. Davis. We were in Arthur Harbor, about 1/4 mile from Palmer Station.
