English:
Jade disc (Bi), a flat circular slab of jade with a central hole. An ancient Chinese text entitled the "Zhouli" (Rituals of Zhou) describes the "bi" as a ceremonial object to sacrifice to Heaven. The precise significance is unknown; jade discs were found in many graves and might have had a ritual role. Nephrite jade, variegated dark green and brown. Liangzhu Culture, south-east China. Neolithic period, c. 2500 BCE. Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
