"Fué adquirido en Londres en 1952 como obra de Kneller, teniendo en cuenta su interés iconográfico ya que desde el primer momento se pensó que podría no ser obra de este maestro sino de Gennari, como señaló Mr. Adams de la National Portrait Gallery. Anteriormente perteneció a la colección del marqués de Townshend."
