Object history | Painted towards the end of the Duke of Cambridge’s short life, the young Duke is aged just three or four but is dressed as a miniature adult. The portrait was probably painted between December 1666, when the Duke was nominated and invested as a Knight of the Garter and his death in June the following year. It was possibly commissioned by Queen Henrietta Maria.
Exhibition history | It has rested in the Royal Collection since its original painting date.
