(School by the Sea) on the East-Frisian island Juist where he was involved in the stage play based on Shakespeare initiated by the boarding school's headmaster Martin Luserke (1889–1968) he later assisted Walter Felsenstein (1901–1975) and Oskar Wälterlin (1895–1961) in Frankfurt's opera house. After the end of WWII he was stage-managing in Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Kiel, Hanover, Oberhausen, Heidelberg, Bonn, Berlin, Luzern and Münster.
