Roger Stevens (left) looks on as President Lyndon B. Johnson turns over the first shovel of dirt at the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Kennedy Center on December 2, 1964. Stevens worked tirelessly to raise the funds necessary for the Center while working simultaneously as chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. Johnson autographed this photograph to Stevens.
