Highsmith; 2009; (DLC/PP-2009:083).; Photographed as part of an assignment for the General Services Administration.; Began in 1991, when, during excavation for a new federal office building, workers discovered the skeletal remains of more than 400 free and enslaved Africans. The site is a national Monument and is the single-most important, historic urban archaelogical project undertaking in the United States.
