The photo was published in the Courier-Post (Camden, NJ) on December 6, 1985 (see [1] ) without a copyright notice for the photo itself nor for the newspaper as a whole. There is no copyright registration for the column in which the photo appears nor for the newspaper as a whole. In fact, no columns in the entire newspaper had their copyright registered. There is one copyright registration for the Courier-Post in 1985, but it does not include the December 6 issue, and it was only for contributions by Monique Begg, not for any issues in its entirety.

The photo was published in The Times-Leader (Wilkes-Barre, PA) on December 6, 1985 (see [2] ) without a copyright notice for the photo itself nor for the newspaper as a whole. There is no copyright registration for the column in which the photo appears nor for the newspaper as a whole. In fact, no columns in the entire newspaper had their copyright registered. There is one copyright registration for the The Times-Leader in 1985, but it was for an issue published on June 3rd, and it was only for a work titled "The Times leader Home sweet home sweepstakes" that appears on p. 12A, not for any issues in its entirety.

The photo was published in the Detroit Free Press (Detroit, MI) on December 6, 1985 (see [3] ) without a copyright notice for the photo itself, but with a copyright notice for the newspaper as a whole. This version of the photo is used. However, out of an abundance of caution to avoid copyright violation, the photo has been cropped such that it does not include any part of the photo that was not published in the two non-copyrighted newspapers mentioned above.
