This is the gate to the
Military Corrective Training Centre
at Berechurch Camp in
Colchester
, Essex.
The inmates are referred to as Servicemen Under Sentence, not prisoners. The MOD maintains this is not actually a prison as in civilian life many of the misdemeanours that send people here would not attract a custodial sentence. A good proportion of the alumni of this training centre are discharged back to their units and have creditable careers in the services.
