Description
English: Closeup Of a 175 watt mercury-vapor lamp bulb. The inner quartz tube has mercury and argon gas inside it, and produces light by an electric arc through the mercury vapor. The small cylinder below the inner tube is a resistor to provide a small current to an electrode that creates a small starting arc to start the main arc. The outer bulb has an optical filter material that blocks the dangerous short-wavelength (UV-C) ultraviolet light
the arc produces.
