Description A fraudulent recreation of a page from the June 3, 1775, issue of the Cape Fear Mercury , a North Carolina newspaper, which supposedly printed the text of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence . Published in Collier's Magazine in 1905, the reproduction was quickly shown to be a hoax.
