Summary

Description

Micaria - probably M. subopaca (Gnaphosidae).

Length c.2.3mm (therefore too small for other British Micaria spp?). Palps with tibial apophysis slightly upcurved (just-about visible in the lower two photos if you apply some imagination) but a little longer than shown in the illustration in Roberts for M. subopaca (though difficult to see with my old microscope!).

Not sure if M. supopaca has been found in Hertfordshire before.

Found running in sunshine waist-height on gnarled trunk of large birch tree, at edge of heath (along with Marpissa & Zelotes/Drassyllus).

Bricket Wood Common, Hertfordshire, England, 17th April 2011.
