Christopher Colombus
(1451?–1506) at the
Plaza de Colón
("
Columbus Square
") in
Madrid
(
Spain
), built between 1881 and 1885. It's the southern side of the square base, sculpted in stone in a Neo-gothic style by
Arturo Mélida
(1849–1902). Relief represents a
Madonna and Child
(
Our Lady of the Pillar
) between two angels; below, the name of the three ships:
Pinta
(left),
Santa María
(centre) and
Niña
(right); and the names of those who took part in the enterprise. At the four corners of the base there are heralds below canopies.

con el Niño entre dos ángeles; debajo, el nombre de las tres naves:
