Summary
| Description |
English:
A 37-foot totem pole, sent from the Nisga'a community to the Royal Scottish Museum in 1931. The pole had been erected some 70-80 years earlier at the village of Angyada on the Nass River. The poled belonged to Neestsawl, a chief of the Nass, and was erected as a memorial to Chief Tsawit, a member of Neestawl's family, after his death during a raid by the Tshimshian against the Nisga'a. The carving was done by Oyay (Oyai) of Gitwinksihlkw (People of Lizards) with assistance from Gwanes. The pole was as Hlkwarcet (Small hat) and Masrayait (White Bullhead). At the National Museum of Scotland, World Cultures Galleries.
