Summary
Description Net-casting Spider - Deinopis longipes, Caves Branch Jungle Lodge, Belmopan, Belize.jpg |
English:
Net-casting Spider - Deinopis longipes, Caves Branch Jungle Lodge, Belmopan, Belize.
This spider uses cribellate silk to create an orb-web net. It hangs from its perch using leg pair 4. As you can see in this picture, it holds this net in shape with leg pairs 1 and 2. Using leg pair 3, it casts the net, usually on prey that walks beneath the spider's net. It's an interesting prey strategy.
