This illustration is a collaboration Eleanor Lutz and Sarah Low to explain ventilators in a series of animations; including also file:Closed circuit ventilators.gif and file:Biology of ventilation.gif ." At the time of their collaboration, Sarah was an anesthesiology resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a leader of CoVent-19 - one of many efforts to address the ventilator shortage during the Covid-19 outbreak, and Eleanor Lutz is an information designer specializing in science communication who worked at the New York Times in the graphics department, as part of the year's fellowship cohort, who before researched disease mosquitoes for my PhD in biology and data science.
