Sobre el nacimiento de la ciudad de Pontevedra existe una leyenda de origen renacentista que dice que el responsable de la fundación de la villa fue Teucro, uno de los héroes de la Guerra de Troya. La leyenda dice que llegó a estas tierras tras ser rechazado por su padre Telamón y fundó un asentamiento con el nombre de Helenes y después de eso se casó con Helena la hija del rey Putrech quien en ese momento dirigía el ejército griego hacia la ciudad de Atenas.
