Summary
Description Percy covered bridge2009.jpg |
English:
A view of the wooden Percy, or Powerscourt Bridge--the oldest bridge in Canada--over the frozen Chateauguay River in Quebec. It has been restored to its 1861 grandeur and has been declared a heritage site by the Canadian government. It was designed by American architect
Daniel Craig McCallum
. The Percy or Powerscourt bridge is the only bridge, out of originally 150 McCallum inflexible truss bridges, which was not designed solely as a railway bridge. They were erected to be strong enough to carry the heavy loads of locomotives and their cargo.
