Notes
English: This painting is a derivative version of the portrait of Albert VII by Rubens, currently housed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Wien. In the São Paulo version, Albert VII is portrayed in full length, probably due to the fact that the painting was intended to be sent to Spain, where this typology, derived from Titian, was more common. The traditional attribution to Rubens has been endorsed by Rooses (1891), Gluck (1940) and Burchard (1950). On the other hand, Muller (1989) and Jaffé (1989) have rejected Rubens' authorship. Vlieghe (1972) attributed it to Gaspar de Crayer. The São Paulo Museum of Art attributes the painting both to Rubens and to his workshop, based in the different levels of quality noticeable in the composition.
