English: An engraved plate in the Macklin Bible (Cadell & Davies edition of the Apocrypha) after a specially-commissioned painting by Philippe De Loutherbourg. Photographed from the Bowyer bible, Bolton, England. 26.3247. Mattathias Punishing Idolatry. Mattathias with dagger raised to kill the Jew in his arms, standing over another body; smoking ruins including torso of a statue at left and a crowd of onlookers behind at right (1 Macabbees 2:23-25). 1815. Inscriptions: Lettered below image with title, text reference, production detail: "P. J. De Loutherbourg Pinxt.", "C. Heath Sculpt." and publication line: "London, Published June 1st. 1815, by T. Cadell & W. Davies Strand". Print made by Charles Heath. Dimensions: Height: 480 millimetres; width: 384 millimetres.
