Title |
Post Medieval Seal Top Spoon
|
||
Description |
English:
A silvered cast copper alloy spoon of early post medieval date. The spoon measures 146mm in length and weighs 30.9g. The oval bowl measures 55mm by 44.1mm. There are patches of the original silvering over parts of the bowl and knop. The stem has a flat oval cross-section. It tapers very slightly from the bowl end and terminates in a simple ball seal knop. A maker's mark in the form of a Tudor rose within a double circular border has been stamped within the bowl, adjacent to the stem. Spoons with this type of knop date from the sixteenth century (Homer 1975, p. 38).
