Description Protathlitis UDL.png |
English:
Protathlitis is a genus of spinosaurid dinosaur from Spain, and the most basal member of the Baryonychinae yet discovered. Like other baryonychines, Protathlitis had curved teeth with fine serrations. It was specialized for feeding in aquatic habitats, and could grow to a length of 10-12 meters. Its discovery helped to show that the Iberian Peninsula held a diverse assemblage of spinosaurids during the Early Cretaceous, and that they migrated south to Africa to further diversify.
