Especie: Puya chilensis.
Género: Puya. Familia: Bromeliaceae. Nombres comunes locales: Chagual, chagual grande, cardón, montera. Distribución geográfica: El chagual es endémico de Chile. Crece en las áreas costeras de suelo rocoso entre la IV y la VII región. Características: La planta es perenne y alcanza una altura de hasta 4 metros, con hojas largas, de orilla espinosa y unidas en la base de la planta. Flores agrupadas en una gran inflorescencia que alcanza algo más de un metro de altura. La flores (hermafroditas) son de color amarillo verdoso.
