Summary

Description
English: Grade II* listed

The oldest part of the church dates from the early thirteenth century. The tower was added in the early fourteenth century when the south wall of the nave was rebuilt and enlarged.

There is a nave with north aisle, chancel, western tower with spire, and north transept or chapel, now the organ chamber.

The tower and spire are mid-fourteenth century. The spire has two-light lucarnes, and was restored in 1887. The nave has a three bay north aisle with round piers. It is possible that it was raised in the fourteenth century. It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1848. The south door is from the early fourteenth century with some fine carvings. The roof is 19th century with trussed rafters and curved braces.

The chancel arch dates from around 1862, built in a thirteenth century style. The chancel was built in the mid nineteenth century, and has a polygonal apse with several two light stained glass windows. It has a richly tiled floor and dado. The builder was Charles Kirk the younger, and the external wall carries the dedication to Charles and Elizabeth Kirk in a frieze beneath the eaves.

The polygonal font is from the fourteenth century. There are also two small piscinas in the nave from the same period.

There are several stained-glass windows dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth century.

There is a small two manual organ by Binns from 1929.
