Official USAAF photo of Major Raymond Shuey Wetmore. Original caption : “Known as “The Man With telescopic Vision”, Capt. Ray S. Westmore, 22, North American P-51 Mustang fighter (ace) pilot of the U.S. 8th Air Force, from Kerman, Calif., participated in the great air battle 14 Jan 1945, and brought his record of enemy planes destroyed up to 21, putting him third, behind 8th AAF fighter pilots Lt. Col. David C. Shilling and Lt. Col. John C. Meyer. Capt Wetmore has shot 21 German planes from the sky in addition to three destroyed on the ground.”
