Summary

Description
English: Semi-official flag of Transylvania in 1852, reportedly ordered by Governor Karl von Schwarzenberg, and replacing the older color scheme (blue-red-yellow) by inverting the top bands. This was probably due to a mistaken reading of tradition (see Iosif Sterca-Șuluțiu, "Tricolorul românesc. (Fine.)", in Gazeta Transilvaniei , Issue 206/1910, p. 2); some sources suggest that the flag may have been blue-yellow-red (the Romanian tricolor scheme), and as such a direct homage to Transylvania's Romanian loyalists (see Doru Neagu, "Din istoricul drapelului național", in Argesis. Studii și comunicări. Seria Istorie , Vol. XIX, 2010, p. 318).
