Description
English: Ridge lane abandoned tramway tunnel This is the South portal of the abandoned Ridge lane tramway tunnel from Grinkle mine. The last tram to run through here was in 1916, A new inclined section was built from the mine site North to connect with the nearby Middlesbrough-Whitby line. The tunnel was then surplus to requirements and abandoned. Ridge lane tunnel is around 400 yards long.
